Is Duolingo actually effective for learning a language?
I have a 200 day streak but I still cant hold a conversation. Am I doing something wrong?

Document everything first. Have clear conversations about expectations. Give them a chance to improve with specific goals and timelines. Sometimes people just need clarity.
