What programming languages should I teach to beginners in a high school setting?
I'm a computer science teacher at a local high school and I'm trying to create a curriculum for my introductory programming class. I want to make sure my students have a solid foundation in programming principles, but I'm not sure which language to start with. I've heard arguments for and against teaching languages like Python, Java, and JavaScript, but I'm not sure which one would be best for my students.
I've considered factors like ease of learning, industry relevance, and the availability of resources, but I'd love to hear from other educators who have experience teaching programming to beginners. My students are mostly freshmen and sophomores with little to no prior experience with programming.
Can anyone recommend a programming language that would be well-suited for high school beginners, and do you have any tips for making the learning process engaging and fun for my students? Are there any specific resources or textbooks that you would recommend for teaching programming to this age group?
